Val has a specific background in multifamily development including day-to-day experience in new construction, senior housing, non-profit, condo conversions, rehabilitations and tax credit-financed projects.
For 10 years previous, Val served as Vice President of Asset Management for Atlanta’s highly-respected Focus Group. In this position, she was successfully responsible for direct oversight of multiple third-party management firms across the Southeast.
Val’s experience also includes her association with a privately held, San Francisco based real estate private equity firm, where, as Director of Asset Management, her legacy included developing the firm’s in-house, asset management model into a third-party, for profit, fee based business line.
Val’s trademark management style of high expectations and a focus on individual responsibility, compliment her leadership approach of strong individual support systems and a dedication to the personal and professional growth of all employees.
When Val first moved to Atlanta, she served as the Director of Multi-Family Accommodations for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, the first organization of its kind in Olympic history ever created for the purpose of housing visitors to the Games.

Joyce Stone
Partner and President, CAM, Georgia REALTOR®, Bachelor of Science in Business, specializing in Finance
Joyce Stone joined HRG in January of 2008 as Val’s business partner. Her background includes experience with a portfolio of properties as varied as construction rehabilitations, conventional apartment properties and City of Atlanta public housing. Joyce plays an integral role at HRG as she brings to the table a strong operations and financial background.
Previously, from 1993 Joyce worked with Wilkinson Real Estate Advisors, Inc. Joyce started with Wilkinson as an on-site manager, but over time worked her way up to hold the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. During Joyce’s years leading Wilkinson, the company became one of the best-known and successful property management companies in the Southeast.
Joyce’s first job in property management was as a groundskeeper for a California-based private owner, and she is still as likely to be found working through a problem with a maintenance supervisor as she is analyzing a spreadsheet. Coupled with Val’s experience in new development, their partnership covers all the bases of management expertise for owners or investors of any property type.
Joyce resides in Marietta, Georgia with her golf clubs, Corvette and beloved dog Jake.
Chris Hadarits
Chief Financial Officer Bachelor of Science in Business, specializing in Finance

In that position, Chris worked directly with Val for 8 years prior to joining her again at HRG. Chris has extensive experience with construction and development, and his knowledge of both cost accounting and managerial accounting serves HRG well on either new or rehabilitation properties.
Prior to first joining property management with his position at Focus, Chris worked for private owners in the restaurant industry, during and immediately after college, and then spent 3 years as the Controller of Atlanta’s MGA Insurance Company.
Chris’s background in property management and the experience gained working in other industries provides Chris with a unique perspective. His people skills allow constructive dialogue with supervisors and on-site managers. And, he plays an integral role on the HRG team providing valuable counsel regarding the owner’s perspective when analyzing a project under consideration.
Chris lives in Alpharetta, Georgia with his wife Heather and two sons Nicholas and Ethan.
Nicki Cartwright
Regional Trainer
In a sense, Nicki Cartwright was the very first person to join HRG. Of course, HRG as such didn’t exist at the time, but that didn’t keep Val Hammond’s daughter from her early career in property management. First, a young Nicki could be seen on one of Val’s properties driving the golf cart for leasing agents who were touring prospects. Later, she was recruited to help out on property audits, organizing folders and filing. Nicki had other jobs, too, during her school years in Southern California, but, of course, she was always involved in some way in the family business.
When Nicki relocated to Atlanta in 2001, she took a full time job as a leasing consultant at a Focus Group 300-unit lease up in Stockbridge Georgia. Later, she was the assistant manager at another Class A property in a highly competitive northern Atlanta suburb. Nicki started to add back office skills to her already strong people skills. She taught herself the Peak Property Management program, and soon she was the “go-to” person in the company for troubleshooting and training.
After three years away from property management, first in management at Home Depot, and later as a department lead at Sprint helping to install the first T1 network for the Federal Reserve, Nicki returned to help Val and Joyce launch HRG. Today, as the company’s knowledgeable IT person, Nicki is responsible for everything from Peak training and support to hardware installation to “help, my email’s down.” Having learned the business from the inside out, Nicki’s insight and experience provides an invaluable contribution to the company’s success.
Nicki lives in Roswell, Georgia with her dog, Chase. In her spare time she loves reading, camping and Guitar Hero.
